Education
The aims of the RSPCA are to prevent cruelty and to promote kindness to animals. The Society’s education service plays a leading role by supporting teachers across the country to deliver animal welfare education to young people. RSPCA education aims to develop understanding of animal welfare issues; to change attitudes towards animals; to promote respect for animals and to encourage responsibility towards them. We can provide curriculum-linked resources and ideas within the RSPCA’s four main areas of concern – companion animals, wildlife, farm animals and animals used in research.
The education department has a team of 30 education officers who are all qualified teachers. Each education officer works within a designated area, promoting animal welfare education within the local schools and universities.
The education officers can plan, develop and deliver demonstration lessons. They support and advise teachers in developing animal welfare education within the curriculum and school grounds. They are able to offer initial meetings, planning sessions and training workshops for teachers to help them develop more knowledge and confidence when teaching about animal welfare within the curriculum.
The education department’s FREE resources, lesson plans and photopacks are all available on our website at www.rspca.org.uk/education. When an education officer visits a school the work they develop and demonstrate will be based on the resources available on the website.
The services that the education department provide are FREE to all schools and we DO NOT FUNDRAISE in schools.
